ABOUT
The Health Essentials Access Initiative was founded by Rylee Youngblood, a Student Senator with the University of Arkansas Associated Student Government, after witnessing a need among students that often goes unseen and unspoken. Through her involvement in student leadership and countless conversations with peers, Rylee began to notice how many students were quietly struggling to access basic hygiene and safety products. Many students were not lacking awareness of their health, but instead lacked a clear, comfortable way to access the items they needed.
As a student herself, Rylee understood how something as small as not having access to a menstrual product, deodorant, or hand sanitizer could quickly turn into something much bigger. These gaps could affect confidence, class attendance, focus, and overall well being. As a Student Senator, she saw firsthand how these challenges could impact students both academically and personally. While the university offers many valuable resources, she recognized that everyday health essentials were still falling through the cracks for too many students.
Motivated by these experiences, Rylee set out to create a solution that was practical, respectful, and centered on dignity. The Health Essentials Access Initiative was designed to meet students where they are by placing free, discreet Health Essentials baskets in high traffic campus buildings. These baskets allow students to access what they need privately and without fear of judgment or stigma.
What began as a student led idea has grown into a collaborative effort supported by the Associated Student Government, SEAR, and multiple campus sororities and student organizations. Through these partnerships, the initiative continues to expand its reach and ensure baskets are thoughtfully placed, regularly restocked, and sustained over time.
At its core, the Health Essentials Access Initiative is rooted in the belief that students cannot thrive academically if their basic health needs are unmet. Rylee’s goal in launching this initiative is to create lasting support for student wellness and to help foster a campus environment where all Razorbacks feel supported, valued, and empowered to focus on their health, confidence, and success.
